WORSHIP

Everyone is very welcome to all the worship at St Barnabas. If you’re looking for a new church, or haven’t been to church for ages do come along and give it a try – we hope there is something to suit everyone.

Our main Sunday Worship is at 10am every week.

Communion

In the Church at 10am there is a Communion service, with traditional and modern hymns, Bible readings, a Bible based sermon, and prayers. Many people take part, with the priest, in leading the service. It lasts just over an hour, and afterwards there is coffee served in church and the opportunity for prayer for any who wish.
About 100 people come.

Church in the Hall

Also at 10am on Sundays (starting April 26th 09) there is “Church in the Hall” . This is something new at St Barnabas! It is a relaxed, varied style of worship and the music is led by our music band, with modern songs on the projector. After a time all together there are groups for the different ages of children, where they have activities based on the Bible story for the day. There is a talk or discussion for the adults also based on the Bible readings, and at the end we come back together for a prayer and songs.
Church in the Hall” finishes at about 10.50 when there is the opportunity for those who wish to join the main congregation in church to receive communion, or a blessing, or the chance to stay in the Hall for coffee and chat together.

This means that every Sunday there is a choice for people to go to which ever sort of worship they prefer, and feel like that day, but also to be very much part of the St Barnabas church family whether you are worshipping in the Hall or the Church.

Family Praise

On the Third Sunday of each month at 10am we all worship together at our Family Praise service.
This is a varied and informal type of worship, planned so that we can all feel involved whatever our age, and never lasts more than an hour. The service includes Bible stories, prayers and activities, modern songs, and a chance to celebrate our birthdays and anniversaries. There is communion afterwards for those who wish. This is a very popular service, to which over 100 people come, with lots of families and young children – the children have plenty of things to join in and you don’t have to worry if they run around and make a noise! We collect food for the Food Bank, the crisis centre in Gloucester, so do bring along some tins, jars, pasta, etc..

8am every Sunday is a quiet communion service, using a Common Worship liturgy. About 20 people come, and afterwards we sit down together for fresh coffee and posh biscuits!

We have one Evening Service a month, on the 4th Sunday of each month (4pm in Winter, 6pm in Summer). It’s a smaller, gentle service with well known hymns and a short talk. 4 times a year it takes the form of a Healing Service, when anyone who wishes can receive the laying on of hands and special prayer for healing in their lives.

Worship in church during the week
Wednesdays 11.45am – a short service of Holy Communion, finishing in good time for any who would like to go the Lunch in the Hall at 12.30pm.
A 20 minute service of Morning Prayer is said on Mon, Tues, Thurs and Friday mornings to which everyone is welcome, and every Monday this include prayers of healing.
Once a month on the 1st Wednesday at 10am there is also a communion service, especially for the Ladies Fellowship, but open to everyone.
